United States To whom it may concern. Please stop following in the old traditions of Thomas Edison who was a patent hoarding fraud. By enabling this to go through you allow more people like Nikolai Tesla who invented and innovated things that were not broken. (ironically who also was cheated out by Edison) These patent laws that were meant to protect do nothing more than protect people who wish to take our nations money with little to no effort. This act stifles the growth of our future in technology and innovation! I remember a time when Nash's Equilibrium was in a full effect in our economy. Now it is every share holder for themselves not for the betterment of this nations achievements and progression. 2 years 4 months ago

United States As a software entrepreneur, I view patent trolls as quite possibly the single worst threat to my livelihood, on top of the onerous costs they impose on our whole society through the innovations they stifle and the funds they siphon off into counterproductive litigation. 2 years 4 months ago

United States The patent system is in crisis, and it endangers the future of software development in the United States. Let's create a system that defends innovation, instead of hindering it. A patent covering software should be shorter: no more than five years from the application date. If the patent is invalid or there's no infringement, the trolls should have to pay the legal fees. Patent applicants should be required to provide an example of running software code for each claim in the patent. Infringers should avoid liability if they independently arrive at the patented invention. Patents and licenses should be public right away. Patent owners should be required to keep their public records up-to-date. The law should limit damages so that a patent owner can't collect millions if the patent represented only a tiny fraction of a defendant's product. Congress should commission a study and hold hearings to examine whether software patents actually benefit our economy at all. 2 years 4 months ago
